Popel Coumou
My work walks on a fine line between architectural forms and tension or emotion. I try to remove all unnecessary elements to get to the core of the image. Even by showing the minimum, you can suggest a lot.

In collages consisting of images and materials such as paper and clay, artist Popel Coumou (1978, the Netherlands) creates spaces that seemingly come to life. The miniature, flat works are very precisely composed as to suggest lighting and depth. Coumou photographs the collages and enlarges them, giving them the impression of lifelike photos. With her work, Coumou tries to challenge our perception of reality.
