Matthias Weischer

Weischer paints domestic interiors and landscapes that make us reexamine our experience of space. He constructs his paintings with thick layers of oil paint gradually applied to the canvas, creating surfaces with a rich and lively texture. His paintings show spaces full of personal memories and (art)historical references, from which human presence has seemingly just departed. A few pieces of furniture and symbolic objects such as paintings and mirrors fill the interiors like theatrical props, adding a disorientating many-layered quality.
