I start with a fragment and then move to the whole. In one work, different images come together, for example a contrast between a fifteenth-century portrait from Italy next to a figure from a film noir. They are all kinds of motifs that are contrasted in this way. And these also continue outside the frame, through the assemblages

Josquin van Elburg’s (2002, Netherlands) work builds a bridge between the past and the present. He combines elements from classical Greek art, the Renaissance and the modernist tradition of Cézanne and Matisse with cinematic references such as Fellini and Antonioni. The resulting fusion creates a rich new visual language that explores the harmony and dissonance of the human experience.
