Josquin van Elburg (2002, Netherlands) developed a work especially for Beyond These Walls in which three disciplines come together: painting, mural and collage. In the mural we see Van Elburg’s view of the creation of the world, in which the presence of a woman is central. The collages depict contemporary representations of women, with the emphasis on their individuality. The painting is already in itself a pastiche. The woman, whose gaze drifts somewhere between shyness and melancholy, symbolizes youth.
