Arnulf Rainer

It is the willingness to accept eccentric structures that gives me the opportunity to change and intensify the expressions of both my face and my personality. I am not embarrassed to use psychotic talents to develop my artistic oeuvre.
Arnulf Rainer via Nino Mier Gallery, 2019

Arnulf Rainer (1929, Austria) has an importance to art history that is uncontested. He is the founder of Art Informel in Austria, and his ‘overpaintings’, developed in the 1950s, made and established his name with artists well beyond Austria's borders. His committed search for new approaches to painting and his constant development of painterly strategies, accompanied by performative works and extensive writing, has led to Arnulf Rainer becoming one of the most influential living artists of our day.
