Axel Hütte

As important as the reality you can recognize are the invisible parts that are hiding through darkness or behind the structure of a bridge or a factory window.
Axel Hütte

Axel Hütte’s (1951, Germany) photographs are devoid of human life; no one sets foot in these grand, empty and barren landscapes. Sometimes, only nature is shown, elsewhere we are shown an urbanized landscape. A dune formation that dissolves into horizontal lines, a bamboo forest in which the vertical thrust predominates, treetops turning into abstract surfaces—Axel Hütte’s landscapes are more than snapshots. They are finely tuned compositions of a beauty belonging not to our, but an entirely different world.
