Mattijs van den Bosch
Use of color is everything to me.
The work of Mattijs van den Bosch (1964, Morocco) is characterized by bright areas of color and stylized compositions. Raised in Morocco, he paints everyday life, the streetscape and architecture he grew up seeing and has since revisited after moving to North Holland at the age of nine. In his everyday scenes, van den Bosch depicts workmen on the street, police officers and construction workers, offer a reassuring glimpse into city life. These subjects are portrayed in a minimal way, isolated for their color or monumentality, or presented as clusters of colorful objects that populate our urban environment. Van den Bosch draws inspiration from the liveliness of the big city and the activities that take place there, encompassing both labor and leisure.
