Shibu Natesan

[The challenge is bringing] the impossible… into the possible, and the imaginative into the actual.

There is a deep humanism to the work of Shibu Natesan (1966, India). Having grown up during times of political turmoil and experiencing all that such times entail, he developed an outlook which, though often critical, gestures with much force to the beauty of being human. Using images taken from popular culture, Natesan puts his critical realism and visual metaphors to work in service of a greater cause, sharply and often humorously portraying repressive forms of control, power structures, racism and the everyday life within which they exist in an industrialized and economically globalized world.
