Maurice van Tellingen

I question human identity, who I can be, and I’m trying to find some answers in the constructs that we make to endure existence.

With disconcerting exactitude, Maurice van Tellingen (1957, the Netherlands) cuts into reality. Time falters and repeats in this newly freed fragment; uncomfortably, the three spatial dimensions unfold and retract. They are everyday scenes – a shower enclosure, a hallway, a stairwell – transformed into interstitial spaces now they’ve been emptied of their humanity. They expose our everyday reality’s structure the way a skeleton bares its bones, all the while rendering fertile that same vacuum.
