Koos Buster

My work portrays the search for a certain “doltish perfection” or something trivial that could also be celebrated.

Literally everything becomes art in Koos Buster’s (1991, the Netherlands) jubilantly tactile world. Combining tongue in cheek humor with extraordinary craftsmanship, Buster’s life-sized ceramic renditions of mundane objects cause us to reflect upon what constitutes art in much the same way as Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp before him. Starting from sketches, Buster works towards a ceramic finale in which he seeks to retain the messiness and innocence of his initial drawings; qualities abundantly present in his work’s finger-marked attributes, bearing witness to the kinetic energy of their maker.
