World Peace, 2025
glazed ceramics

Koos Buster (1991, Netherlands) elevates everyday objects into cheerful and accessible works of art. On the wall, we find a world peace button. It can be seen as a reversed ‘red button’, anyone who desires world peace only needs to press the button.
Literally everything becomes art in Buster’s jubilantly tactile world. Combining tongue-in-cheek humor with extraordinary craftsmanship, Buster’s life-sized ceramic renditions of mundane objects cause us to reflect upon what constitutes art in much the same way as Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp before him. Starting from sketches, Buster works towards a ceramic finale in which he seeks to retain the messiness and innocence of his initial drawings; qualities abundantly present in his work’s finger-marked attributes, bearing witness to the kinetic energy of their maker.
