Jan Andriesse

Even the whitest white is darker than the light.

Jan Andriesse (1950, Indonesia - 2021, the Netherlands) creates artworks about light, space and the reflection of light on water. He draws inspiration from the view of the water from his studio on his houseboat and investigates natural phenomena. The continuous change of water seems to be a metaphor for the light, which Andriesse sees as a kind of movement. He rose to international fame in the nineties with his large-scale rainbowpaintings, in which the colors blend into each other imperceptibly.
