Dirk Salz
My entire work is a kind of philosophical analysis. It’s all about perception. . . I’m tracing phenomena that are able to touch strings inside of us, be it by creating ambiguous views, by intentionally connecting contradictions, or by creating phenomena of light, color, and space.

“Depth must be hidden on the surface,” Austrian poet Hugo von Hofmannsthal once said. These works by Dirk Salz (1962, Germany) form a pure expression of this paradoxical sentiment. Created by distributing multiple layers of pigment-enriched epoxy resin to a cork base, Salz’s objects, which he calls paintings, draw the viewer’s eye into unfathomable depths of color, while at the same time reflecting both the viewer and its surroundings. Depth pulls the viewer in while the many reflections push the viewer out, inspiring spectators to slow down, think and feel.
