Neal Rock
Neal Rock (born 1976 in Port Talbot, Wales, UK) draws his inspiration from 1980s horror and gore films, coupled with the paintings of the abstract Expressionists. His profuse, baroque works are made up of coloured silicon forms and represent a cross-breeding of painting with sculpture. Rock sounds out the boundaries between these two disciplines. His works hang on the wall as sculptural compositions. Because he additionally uses artificial flowers, twigs, brambles and plants, his works well approach the quality of living organisms. In his own words: “My works are informed by a kind of intentional fallacy or neo-Dada forms of language construction; if you can ‘get it’ then you’re not really getting it, as Groucho once famously said.”*
