pigments, resin on cork

15 cm

“Depth must be hidden on the surface,” Austrian poet Hugo von Hofmannsthal once said. These works by Dirk Salz (1962, Germany) form a pure expression of this paradoxical sentiment. Created by distributing multiple layers of pigment enriched epoxy resin to a cork base Salz’s objects, which he calls ‘paintings,’ draw the viewer’s eye into unfathomable depths of color, whilst at the same time reflecting both viewer and surroundings. “My inspiration is, and always was, nature,” says Salz. This sentiment in combination with Salz’s ongoing research into color and pigments make these works a logical addition to the collection.
