Christie van der Haak
The works by artist Christie van der Haak (1952, The Netherlands), has a strong decorative character. In our culture, decoration is often seen as ‘ornament’: as something that decorates something else but is nothing on it’s own. ‘Ornamenting’ is very important in for example the Islamic culture, in fact it is an autonomous artistic form. With this concept in mind, Van der Haak makes paintings, ceramics and textile which are decorative and autonomous at the same time.
