Tom Heerschop’s (1972, the Netherlands) work is never boring. In a cartoonish hodgepodge of Cobra, Ans Wortel and Melle, he puts his personal fears and preoccupations to paper. Humans transform into monsters, but these monsters hold beauty. Wrapped up in neat lines, modest scratches and sensuous fields of color, Heerschop’s esthetics provide a stepping-stone into a hellish bedlam.
