Carla Klein

I am a painter. I love the two-dimensional image, paint and the quiet illusion.
Carla Klein via TENT Talks, 2012

The landscapes by Carla Klein (1970, the Netherlands) are based on snapshots she herself made—fruitless photographs attempting to capture the grandeur of a landscape. It’s a common issue. Yet in her paintings, Klein manages to capture that which eluded the photograph. On the canvas, the landscape unfolds like a distant plain. The painting’s scale and dynamic composition cause the beholder to be swept away by a game, delicately played with perspective.
