Eli Content

Eli Content (1943, Switzerland - 2022, Amsterdam) makes abstract work, partly because the Jewish faith forbids him to depict living things. Content sees his paintings as an expression of his Jewish roots. Sporadically you can recognize figurative elements such as Hebrew characters, a phoenix or a vague human figure. At the start of his career he started painting the "perfect square" with thin paint patterns of horizontal and vertical lines, almost monochrome in white, gray or yellow. Content later started to work more pastly and started using bright colors.
