Ulla-Stina Wikander
I find it interesting to see how these objects transforms in a new context; the obsolete, the things we do not want any longer, the old and forgotten things. They become artifacts from a bygone era, disguised, camouflaged and dressed.

Having collected cross-stitch embroidery for many years, Ulla-Stina Wikander (1957, Sweden) began applying her found embroideries in an entirely new way in 2012. Covering the surface of ordinary household items from the 70s with needlepoint, both objects start to alter one another in ways that rework commonly held perceptions about kitsch and culture—doing so, however, without any of superficial irony one so often encounters. There is honesty in her craft, and much said about beauty.
