Toon Verhoef
A painting emerges from an aggregate of various impulses and should be viewed as such, without emphasizing any single one.

Toon Verhoef’s (1946, the Netherlands) abstract paintings are images devoid of figurative intent, evoking all manner of associations. Working with great attention to detail the artist creates a world of shapes and colors to which all these associations seem wholly native. Verhoef reduces the art of painting to its essence: a lively play between paint, composition and coloration. The result is art that makes no demand of its viewer, capable of raising and absorbing any and all thoughts and associations: a purely visual object in service of the imagination.
