Tomasz Ciecierski
Painting itself is the subject of Tomasz Ciecierski’s (1945-2024, Poland) work. Time and again we are confronted with the question of how an image, a representation, is created. As such, the symbolic landscape is a much revisited subject. Consisting of multiple components—monotone color fields next to landscapes which are both abstract and figurative—his landscapes are no subordinate copies of fragments of reality. Within the spaciousness of his paintings, the artist weaves together memories of real or imagined landscapes with fictitious seas, islands, mountains and skies—analysis of sort unfettered by fear of poetry.
