Tom Bogaard

Tom Bogaard paints portraits as well as diffuse landscapes. The haziness in the landscapes gives a mysterious touch to his paintings, an effect that is intensified by the fact that the image appears to be a part of a larger whole that extends beyond the boundaries of the painting. His portraits, of human and animal figures, are in contrast to his mysterious landscapes, sharp and clear. Boogaard uses photographic elements in his paintings, which consequently acquire a contemporary realistic touch. Bogaard often paints his personages with a monochrome background colorm, which enlarges the intensity of the portrait: the attention of the beholder will not be distracted by anything and will be totally focussed on the figure.
