TINKEBELL.

I'm researching frictions in our norms: How we behave, how we live, how we connect with each other, our position towards animals, the environment, the future of our food, (social)media, refugee issues, politics, multiculturalism and more.

TINKEBELL., the pseudonym of Katinka Simonse (1979, Netherlands), is an artist, writer, and storyteller who examines the blind spots of contemporary society. Her work questions why certain forms of violence, exploitation, or environmental destruction are widely accepted, while similar acts provoke outrage when presented in an artistic context. Rather than offering answers, she exposes contradictions in our moral values and everyday behavior, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own responsibilities and assumptions.

Working across visual art, writing, film, public interventions, and research-based projects, TINKEBELL. builds each work around extensive investigation into a specific social or environmental issue. She often incorporates the materials or objects at the center of that research into the artwork itself, using them to make invisible systems tangible. In different projects, she has transformed her deceased cat into a handbag to question the use of animals in the fashion industry, and painted destroyed mangrove landscapes using paint made from toxic waste produced by the oil company Shell. By combining research, material evidence, and provocation, she creates works that spark public debate about the values that shape contemporary society.
