Wilma Kuil
Wilma Kuil (1949, Netherlands) subtly researches the balance and tension between pre-existing designs and an image she herself has created. With minimal means she’ll transforms a nondescript floral pattern, for instance, into a contemporary Vanitas painting. Kuil manipulates images by layering images and combining multiple perspectives. Many of her works concern the human ideal, familiar situations, melancholy, nature, and memories of youth. It is suggestive work in which one is easily immersed.
