Peter Doig

My paintings are a way of looking at the world, not through the eyes of a painter, but through the eyes of painting.

Peter Doig’s (1959, United Kingdom) paintings are known for their dreamlike, figurative and sometimes uncanny character. His work feels both personal and universal; Doig combines personal memories from his childhood in Canada with images from films and photographs. Although his work is often based on existing films and photographs, his work can’t be described as realistic, but as magical-realistic. In the work of Doig there is almost always a human presence, or traces thereof.
