Thomas Schütte

Thomas Schütte (1954, Germany), who originally studied to be a painter, is interested in the concept of improving the world. The themes of ‘la condition humaine’—that untranslatable phrase containing all of life’s situations and dilemmas—and the apparent impossibility of producing an image, comprehensible and fundamentally meaningful to all, continually manifest in his work. Consequently his work contains not only humor and irony, but oftentimes a sense of melancholy too.
