Thomas Houseago

In his work, Thomas Houseago (1972, United Kingdom) playfully undermines the notions and expectations we have of classical sculpture. The classical monument constitutes a memory of the past, often in honor and commemoration of a hero or historic deed, executed in bronze or marble and meant to last an age. Houseago prefers to use humbler, more susceptible materials such as plaster or clay. Houseago is above all intrigued by the attitudes and movements of the human body, and rather less so in the creation of a fulsome, perfect image.
