Sofi Zezmer
When viewing Sofi Žezmer’s (1959, Poland) work, it doesn’t seem like something constructed by a consciousness one would easily recognize as human. Rather, they resemble the product of some subconscious entity which emerges from the complexity of modern-day life and its myriad interactions. Innocuous and ordinary materials such as drinking straws, IV tubing, construction netting, foil, bicycle helmets, cable ties and funnels agglomerate into color-saturated organs, if not organisms, forcing us to question our familiarity with their constituent parts.
