Peter Struycken

Everything I see can be reduced to colors and their place in space. Variety exists only through distinction. Distinction is possible through an observable relationship of properties: the structure. A structure of colors is distinguished by a specific ratio of colors, by a system of major and minor differences in color.
Peter Struycken in Structuur, verscheidenheid en verandering (1984)

Visual artist Peter Struycken (1939, Netherlands) investigates the meaning of color in his non-figurative work. He uses paintings, drawings, textiles and video to express interesting color relationships. Struycken has been a pioneer in making art for the public space and the use of computers in art. He sees the world we live in as a space chaotically filled with different colors. He tries to make this evident in his art through structured representations.
