Ryo Kinoshita

I am interested in how and where painting happens. What happens on the canvas, what happens through the gap in the canvas, what's on the back, what space is behind the screen, how I set boundaries in painting.

Surging through the work of Ryo Kinoshita (1985, Japan) is a current of great vigor. It isn’t immediately evidenced by any wild gestural qualities, yet it becomes unavoidable once the eye has wondered across his work. One detects delight in every choice, and thorough appreciation for all materials, as if he has lived an entire life with every bead, every color, and with every bit of fabric or plastic, and hence, knows them intimately. And this carries over into his work, not as formal inquiry, but as joyful intercourse with every dimension of the canvas.
