Patricia Paludanus
I live in Amsterdam, but really, since the day I rediscovered the color pencil, I reside in the topography of my drawings. They are portals, taking me further and further back to a primordial experience of the world.

Patricia Paludanus (1974, Netherlands) has worked in many media but, to her own surprise, eventually returned to the simple material of her youth: the colored pencil. Picked up during a search for a magic deemed lost, the pencil proved to be a key and an uncharted universe unfolded, which she explores in a slow process of free association. In doing so, she uses an intense, hard-edge drawing technique that transforms the paper into a glowing, leathery skin and turns color into a physical experience. The evocative ‘mindscapes’ that emerge are windows onto an inner landscape that, in its layering, transcends the univocal and individual and in which new spaces keep opening up that may also unlock the viewer’s subconscious.
