Paul Raguénès
What interests me is the variable color, the color that approaches black, the black that allows one to detect its colorness, depending on where we stand, how long we wait, how the light changes. For this reason, I am interested only in [red and blue], which are located at the primary points along the color wheel. Close to black. Intensive.

The works of Paul Paul Raguénès (1964, Frankrijk) are often seen as monochromes, yet his work is far more complex and conceptually it presents a broader reality. It’s about perception, experience, expression and analysis. The eye’s light-sensitive retina takes in information, which is simultaneously conveyed to the brain. A relentless mechanism. The eyes and, by extension, the artworks are the vehicle between the outer and the inner world, but also between the worlds of the artist and the viewer.
