Pär Strömberg

I want to create recognizable images, ones that seem to arise from collective memory.

In Pär Strömberg’s (1972, Sweden) seemingly somber and lonely landscapes, the astute observer will discover a whole range of colors. Strömberg constructs his paintings from numerous layers of diluted oil paint, resulting in a work reminiscent of watercolors: a transparent skin of paint through which light seems to trickle. Light is an important element to Strömberg;  it may obscure or blind, “Or,” as Strömberg puts it, “a crepuscular zone between those two extremes.”
