Odonchimeg Davaadorj
In the world depicted by Odonchimeg Davaadorj (1990, Mongolia) there are no barriers between humans, plants and animals. Everything is connected and every symbiosis produces new organisms that defy classification. Her works are peopled by creatures that are half human and half animal, plant or root system. Delicately painted in watercolor and Chinese ink, they impress on us that every living being forms part of the same ecosystem.
In the drawings, paintings, ceramic objects and three-dimensional installations of Davaadorj a leading role is played by the natural world, the female body and the use of universal stories to communicate with others. The connecting threads that Davaadorj sometimes literally uses in her drawings have a double meaning: they seem strong, but are at the same time fragile. They symbolize the invisible connections between all living beings and the importance of taking care of those connections.
