Matthias Meyer
Matthias Meyer (1969, Germany) constructs his landscapes on the basis of his own photographs, video recordings and sketches. The combination of these elements - the atmosphere of a photograph, the linear pattern in a sketch - ensures that the work that comes into being is not a direct portrayal of reality, but feels like a crystallized memory. Realistic and abstract themes merge in a natural way. Meyer paints wet-in-wet in thin layers of oil paint; every layer dissolves to some extent in the layer beneath, at the same time adding new elements. In each of his works he makes use of the element of light to create dreamlike worlds, in which humans are largely absent.
