Markus Weggenmann

The abstract paintings by Markus Weggenmann (1953, Germany) are preceded by an extensive design process, resulting in many modestly sized designs (usually A3). From all of these only one is eventually selected with great care. Once the design has been scanned and digitally edited, the image is enlarged to match the size of the eventual art work. Weggenmann always outsources this last step to a body shop, which will then continue to produce the finished art piece in paint. The artist is no longer involved in the end product, no brush touches the aluminum when the car paint is sprayed on, and yet, the artist’s hand remains clearly visible in both the composition and design.
