Marcel van Eeden
It has fascinated me from the start that I can see photos of moments that I do not exist myself. That should actually be impossible: seeing a moment, seeing light that dates from a moment that you didn't exist. You cannot get closer to your own non-existence.

The oeuvre of artist Marcel van Eeden (1965, the Netherlands) consists of large collection of drawings on paper. Nearly compulsive, Van Eeden makes at least one drawing every day, usually in black and white and in a small format. Although the drawings seem to be personal memories and associations of the artist himself, they are direct copies of images from magazines, books, films and newspapers from before 1965, the birth year of Van Eeden. Van Eeden draws this period to get a grip on the concept of time and simultaneously put this concept into perspective.
