Kiki Lamers
My paintings are darker than you might think at first glance. They aren’t portraits, but abstract representations of a feeling.

Kiki Lamers (1964, the Netherlands) creates concentrated yet unassuming portraits of children, based on spontaneous photographic moments. Personality is brought to the fore in these paintings. With her sober use of color, Lamers produces a lull in time, intensified by the children’s expression and pose. Lamers’ paintings are sensitive and delicate, just like her subject. Emotions have not yet etched themselves into the face of a child, which is why, according to Lamers, there is no surface better suited to receive the projection of expressions.
