Kenneth Aidoo

For to know what color is just to pay attention and being aware of the moment when you see yourself. But that means the universe for me.

The representation and neglected history of black people is a central theme in the work of Kenneth Aidoo (1988, the Netherlands) . He has painted portraits of black soldiers who fought in the First World War, of little-known black saints and of black people who came to Europe in the Middle Ages as part of the African diaspora. In his most recent work he opposes the stereotypical placing of black people in a context of poverty, violence and oppression, and focuses on their pride, wealth and daily life.
