Juul Kraijer

Anything that may indicate coordinates in time and space is absent. . . . The depicted bodies are naked yet neutral. Not flesh but a vehicle. They remain within the mind’s domain.

Juul Kraijer’s (1970, the Netherlands) drawings are populated by human beings, often women. Miraculous things happen in these drawings, which display a soft kind of surrealism. In her drawings, Kraijer makes the mysterious visible. The soft lines with which Kraijer puts her piercing and pure images on paper render the represented emotion visible.
