Julius Stibbe

Julius Stibbe (1995) is a real painter. He builds up his paintings in total freedom from the process of painting itself. There are no pre-conceived sketches or concepts. While working on the first form, the next one presents itself while painting, one color flows
from the other. In this freedom, paintings arise from incidents, surprises that arise and are cherished by Julius. Painterly elements such as composition, rhythm and light are closely monitored. in this free process. Colors are balanced and deliberately placed next to each other, sometimes complementary to each other. The eye seeks a steady hold in the works, but only gets it when it surrenders to the observation that nothing resembles anything. Sometimes the brain perceives a familiar image, but you can't hold it, the moment of recognition is soon over. As a result, even on the smallest work (20 x 30 cm.)will not bore you, the power of the work makes you look at it with full attention, researching. And these paintings deserve that attention.
Although the works mostly have a title, they are often hard to point back to the visual image. Perhaps an event in his life plays a role, as a starting point, the very beginning of the origin of the work (is that where the titles come from?).
While painting, those quastions disappears into the background: the search for form and color erases
the concrete memory.
Julius Stibbe does not care about what we should see in his works, he sets us free in our
interpretation. He shares with us his amazement at the result of that search that continues to
again starts with a blank canvas, paint and a few brushes and maybe an everyday experience.
