Jeroen Werner

Painter and photographer Jeroen Werner (1960, the Netherlands) is fascinated by observation and the corresponding viewing and thinking process. Just as scientists do, he builds sophisticated installations out of lenses, mirrors and projections. Just like they are, he is interested in reflections, refractions and virtual images, in the very act of depicting. And, just as scientists are, he is interested in how reality may be captured with his instruments, and if it’s possible at all. But unlike scientists, Werner does not research the truth. He uses his work to deform reality, and shows us that “observing” is not as simple as it may seem.
