Jakup Ferri

I would say that beauty lies in experimentation, but also in being true to yourself. Beauty is everywhere really. Somehow beauty is how we see things and not how they are.

In his art, Jakup Ferri (1981, Pristina) is driven by the absence of his native country and culture in the Western (art) world. The political situation in Kosovo has had a lot of influence on Ferri. The fact that this problematic situation seems to be invisible in the country where he lives and works frustrates him. In series of videos, he makes this alienation tangible in an ironic way. In recent work, Ferri integrates his research into outsider and folk art. In handmade tapestries and drawings, subjects such as isolation and the search for contact keep recurring.
