Hiva Alizadeh

It’s like my works are constantly summoning you to touch them, fondle them or brush them, like they are telling you to take care of them.
Hiva Alizadeh

When you look at the artworks of Hiva Alizadeh (1989, Iran) viewed from afar they resemble color-field abstractions. Moving closer, they emerge as tresses of brightly colored synthetic hair, streaming down the wall like rivulets of paint. For Alizadeh, the strands of hair comprising his works also resemble the fibers used to weave tales of beauty in the ancient Iranian art of carpet making; a tradition to which the artist pays tribute with his work and which he seeks to anchor in contemporary art.
