Guda Koster

Clothing can be seen as a form of visual art that expresses the way we see ourselves and our relationship to the world around us.

The work of Guda Koster (1957, Netherlands) moves between fashion, sculpture, photography, and performance. She creates what she calls “living sculptures,” staged photos of a model, usually herself, whose body is integrated into geometric shapes with bright colors or graphic patterns that either blend in or stand out.

Clothing is central to Koster’s art. To her, what we wear not only protects the body but also sends messages about who we are. In her work, the human figure’s identity is often hidden or obscured by geometric forms. This shifts the focus to other parts of the composition. Koster’s pieces carry a sense of mystery, sometimes humorous, sometimes unsettling, but always intriguing.
