Jos van Merendonk

You could say that my work is a succession of clichés, for example: ellipse, line (free hand or drawn with a ruler) and scratching. With these elements I organize, or to be precise, I fill in, paint over, scratch away and draw on the canvas from upper left to lower right, giving rise to structures, compositions, grids and drawings, and, whatever else, to paintings too.
Jos van Merendonk

Over the years, Jos van Merendonk (1956, Netherlands) has created a subtle variation in his work that is clearly affirmed. His focus on form and his process-oriented approach lead to a painting style that is detached from centuries of tradition. The process of creation is reduced to simple actions, always within the same frame and always using the same color. It is the movement itself that is expressed, and this versatility proves ample and remarkable.
