Frank van der Salm
I’m no longer interested in photographing a modern city. I want to photograph The Modern City. I’ll build my own metropolis.

In his photographs, Frank van der Salm (1964, the Netherlands) records the development of megacities all over the world, depicting the iconic ideas and structures of these urban landscapes. His work has evolved into a diverse oeuvre about the control of landscape, infrastructural issues and the pressure on time and space in contemporary metropolises.
Simultaneously, Van der Salm explores the possibilities photography offers. One photograph shows an impression of Las Vegas, for instance, if one would race through the city at high speed. There is so much to see that everything merges in to a field of colors: the photograph transforms into a painting, blurring the boundaries.
