Frank Nitsche

Thinking about color comes secondary in my paintings. Primarily I’m interested in form. I don’t conceive green, for example, as a color but rather more like an alien element in and towards the picture that I consciously put in as a disruptive factor.

Frank Nitsche (1964, Germany) has developed a sophisticated visual language of overlapping layers of paint, intersecting lines and intriguing shapes, all of them coming together in abstract formations reminiscent of blue prints, technical models, design, calligraphy and computer programs. To work on his abstract compositions, Frank Nitsche makes use of a large visual archive taken from media, pop and consumer culture which he arranges, selects and condenses into his own pictorial idiom.
