Frank Ammerlaan
Creation, that’s what matters to Ammerlaan: the search for new materials and new forms, in order to create unprecedented experiences for the viewer.
Hans den Hartog Jager over Frank Ammerlaan
Frank Ammerlaan (1979, the Netherlands) has an eye for beauty in things that usually go unnoticed. An oil trail for example, in which a fascination for the fluid color-play forms the starting point for a series of paintings. For this, Ammerlaan immerses canvasses in a bath full of oil and soap bubbles. When the water drains away, the substances adhere to the canvas and subsequently are fixed with chemicals. Ammerlaan decided that his paintings had to be set up in one go. This attempt can take a lot of time and requires an unremitting effort.
